Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Prayer Shawl Ministry began in 2002 at the Congregational Church of Topsfield with a workshop directed by Janet Bristow, one of the originators of the Prayer Shawl Ministry in Hartford, Connecticut. Barbara Whitcher and Shirley Moser were the church leaders who organized the groups and developed the process for our church with the Vision to “To combine the care and love of knitting into a powerful ministry that reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace.”

We welcome knitters and crocheters to join us on Wednesday afternoons at 1 PM in the Emerson
Center Parlor. If this time is inconvenient for you but you would like to be part of this ministry, please
contact us to discuss possibilities. We will provide the yarn and directions for making the shawls.
The blessing that is attached to each shawl says, “As you wear this shawl, may you be cradled in hope,
kept in joy, graced with peace and wrapped in love.”

Also, if you know someone who would benefit from receiving a shawl, please contact the church
office, any member of the Parish Care Team or Sandy Whelan at: sandyw7@verizon.net.
